Suspected homos£x¥als were arrested at a gay wedding in Delta State, police vows to prosecute them
The Delta State Police Command has announced its intention to prosecute individuals detained at a homosexual wedding ceremony involving Daniel Pius (the groom), 22, and Maxwel Ohwonohwo (bride), 20. A team of police officers raided the event venue and apprehended a total of 67 suspects allegedly involved in same-sex relationships. Abel Daniel, 23, one of the detainees, confessed that, while under the influence of alcohol, an unidentified male suspect engaged in sexual activity with him via his anus at the hotel. Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, made it clear that Delta State does not tolerate any form of same-sex relationships, emphasizing that marriage is only recognized between a man and a woman. The prosecution will proceed in accordance with Nigeria’s Anti-Gay Law, which prohibits same-sex marriage nationwide.
The suspects were paraded at the Ekpan Divisional Police headquarters in Uvwie before their scheduled arraignment in court. DSP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Delta State Command, confirmed the incident. He explained that police officers intercepted a male cross-dresser claiming to be an actor. Upon interrogation, the individual admitted to being a member of a specific gay club and revealed his intention to attend a gay marriage ceremony. Based on gathered intelligence, CSP Aliyu Shaba led a raid at Teebolus Hotel, located off Refinery Road Ekpan Warri, where the alleged gay wedding was taking place. As the police arrived at the hotel, the attendees fled in different directions.
The officers pursued and apprehended a total of 67 suspects, both male and female, who were involved in organizing or attending the same-sex wedding ceremony. During a search of the premises, several items were seized, including a bottle of codeine, three cups of refined Canadian weed, five sachets of SK (a street drug), one sachet of tramadol, four tablets of molly drug, one crusher, and ceremonial attire worn during gay marriages.
