The judgment in the petition filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP) challenging President Bola Tinubu’s election has been reserved by the Presidential Election Petition Court. Obi and the LP are the petitioners in this case, marked as CA/PEPC/03/2023, which challenges Tinubu’s election to power. The respondents in this case are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The panel, consisting of five members and presided over by Justice Haruna Tsammani, has reserved judgment and will communicate the date to the parties after they have adopted their final written addresses. On July 5, after the respondents had concluded their cases, the parties were given time to file their written addresses. Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), the lead counsel for INEC, while adopting their final written addresses on July 14, urged the court to uphold their objections, dismiss the petition, and consider it lacking in merit. He stated that there are five issues listed, but he would only address two of them.
