President Tinubu has assured Nigerian workers that a new minimum wage and salary review are in the works. In a nationwide broadcast on July 31, 2023, he announced that his government is collaborating with labor unions to implement a new national minimum wage. Once the new minimum wage and general salary increase are agreed upon, budget provisions will be made for immediate implementation.

President Tinubu also commended private employers in the Organized Private Sector who have already implemented salary reviews for their employees. President Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerians during this period but encouraged them to focus on the bigger picture and remain optimistic.

He assured the public that positive plans are being developed and will ultimately yield results. In related news, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced a seven-day nationwide strike starting on August 2, 2023, to protest against the rising cost of living resulting from the fuel subsidy removal. The Nigerian government is currently engaged in discussions with labor representatives in an attempt to prevent the strike. However, the NLC has advised citizens to prepare for the strike by stocking up on essential items such as food and medicine.
