Newly inaugurated Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, issued a stern warning to those who are distorting the FCT master plan, stating that their properties will be demolished in the near future. Speaking during his assumption of office as FCT Minister in Abuja on Monday, the former Rivers State Governor assured that his administration will not hesitate to tear down any illegal structures, irrespective of the social standing of the owners.
Wike emphasized that even ministers and ambassadors will not be exempted if they have built in unauthorized areas. He further emphasized the importance of preserving green areas, stating that parks and green spaces taken over by unauthorized development will be reclaimed. Additionally, Wike expressed his intention to put an end to land racketeering, revoking lands allocated to those who have failed to develop them. Furthermore, he emphasized the need for accountability by requiring land recipients to sign agreements to develop the allocated land within a specified timeframe.
